3 Hacks You Need to Know This Fall!

Minimize Repairs Costs and Skip the Line at the Bike Shop!

3 Rookie Mistakes to Avoid This Fall

1. Get a Tune-Up Now, NOT in the Spring

Due to the unprecedented increase in bike and e-bike sales caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, bike shops are busier than ever before. This is great news because it means more people are riding, but bad news because of long wait times for service in the spring (sometimes with wait times of up to 6 weeks!). If you want to skip the long spring tune-up line, book a tune-up BEFORE putting your bike in storage.

Getting a tune-up or repair in the winter can save you the disappointment of a delayed start to your season next year and more flexibility on the pickup in most cases. This will also guarantee that you can be outside riding the moment Spring arrives. Big Win!

So, what are you waiting for?
Take advantage of our Same-Day Service and have your Bike, E-Bike or E-Scooter ready ahead of time!

2. Clean Your Bike BEFORE Storing It

Just like cars, bikes and their components get rusty if they’re not cleaned and protected on a regular basis. And this only gets worse if they're left in a filthy condition for several months! A full season of riding probably means that your Bike, E-Bike or E-Scooter has collected some dirt and grime, especially on the drive-train and not cleaning them before storing them could be a costly mistake.

We see lots of rusty bike components at our shops as a result of this common mistake, which can lead to costly replacements in some cases, but you can easily avoid this by following these simple tips:

- Clean your Bike, E-Bike or E-Scooter with warm soapy water and a soft sponge regularly. Be sure to use the shower setting if you use a hose, and keep soap and other chemicals away from disc brakes!

- For E-Bikes and E-Scooters, be sure not to expose any electronic components to water or other liquids.

- For Bikes and E-Bikes, clean your drive-train (gears, chain, derailleur) more thoroughly with bike specific brushes. After cleaning, reapply chain lubricant if you have some.

3. Book Non-Essential Repairs and Upgrades During the Winter Months

Let’s face it, keeping your bike at the shop during the riding season is inconvenient, especially since summer is quite short. If you are thinking about a major (non-essential) repair or upgrade, we recommend taking advantage of the wide availability of bike shops in the winter months instead. This will give the technicians at the shop enough time to order parts if needed, and you won’t have to sacrifice giving up precious riding time during the season.

Here are some great examples of things you can do to level up your ride:

E-Bike Conversion is a popular service we offer for those interested in converting the Bike they already love into an E-Bike.  Although every kit will be different based on rider preference and limitations of what the Bike can handle, we can talk you through the wide variety of options to find the solution that’s right for you.
